Austria and Switzerland see themselves as “ski nations”. The two neighboring countries share the Alps as an experiential and cultural space that creates certain identities and meanings. From a cultural and socio-historical perspective, many developments in skiing took place in parallel. However, scientific research and the general public know very little about the other side. This volume looks at the political and social framework of skiing in both countries and traces the historical relationships between them across borders. In many cases, the history of skiing in Austria and Switzerland is a history of shared tracks.
